Boil advisory lifted for Cuyahoga Falls, Boston Township residents

Nov 25, 2023

The City of Akron lifted a boil water advisory that affected roughly 150 homes since Monday morning after a water main broke on Akron Peninsula Road, according to a city press release.

The break occurred on Akron Peninsula Road near Bath Road, reducing water pressure and causing the water supply to be shut off for repairs, the release said. Akron Peninsula Road and several streets to the north in Cuyahoga Falls and Boston Township were impacted.

Water testing was completed over the last 18 hours as crews repaired the water main. The city confirmed drinking water is safe to consume.

The homes that fell within the boil water advisory are in or adjacent to the following streets:

When cooking or drinking water, residents are advised to boil their water for a minimum of two minutes before returning it to the proper temperature, the city said.

The loss of pressure can cause water quality to decrease resulting in discoloration or increased lead levels.

To reduce lead exposure, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends customers run the tap until there is a notable temperature drop if the water has not been used for several hours. Then run water for 30 seconds to 3 minutes for drinking and cooking to flush away any excess lead.

Use cold water for cooking, drinking and preparing baby formula. Boiling water does not reduce lead.

Finally, the EPA recommends cleaning the faucet aerator, which is where water exits the faucet.
